The ancient civilisations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, China, Greece, and Rome treasured Lapis. The three major minerals that comprise lapis are lazurite, calcite, and pyrite. The rock can also contain lesser amounts of diopside, amphibole, feldspar, or mica. Lazurite is the ingredient responsible for producing the gem’s most prized colour—bright royal blue. Golden flecks of pyrite create a sparkle in lapis lazuli. These full round Lapis beads graduate from 6.5mm down to 3.5mm, a perfect vibrant blue with just the right amount of golden veins.

In his younger years, David trained as a scientific and medical instrument maker in Cambridge and, consequently, as an aircraft engineer. Importantly, this gave him a unique perspective on precision manufacturing, which he then applied to jewellery making.
