Lapis & branch coral necklace.

Lapis was treasured by the ancient civilisations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, China, Greece, and Rome. The three major minerals that comprise lapis are lazurite, calcite, and pyrite. The rock can also contain lesser amounts of diopside, amphibole, feldspar, or mica. Lazurite is the ingredient responsible for producing the gem’s most prized colour—bright royal blue. Golden flecks of pyrite create a sparkle in lapis lazuli. These fluted Lapis beads graduate from 15mm down to 11mm, a perfect vibrant blue with just the right amount of golden veins.

Interspaced with bunches of vibrant branch coral, a stunning combination. Handmade solid 18ct gold spacers mark the junctions between these two beautiful elements.

In his younger years, David trained as a scientific and medical instrument maker in Cambridge and, consequently as an aircraft engineer. Importantly this provided him with a unique perspective on precision manufacturing which he then applied to jewellery making.
