Pearl Jewellery
Pearls—timeless treasures in the world of jewellery—are a true marvel of nature. Technically an organic substance, they are produced by shelled molluscs in concentric layers of calcium carbonate. Forming lustrous gems that have captivated humanity for centuries.
Contrary to popular belief, pearls are not formed around grains of sand, but rather as a defence mechanism. When an oyster protects itself from a parasitic irritant, it creates a pearl. This natural process, once only discovered through deep-sea diving, has since evolved. Today, most pearls are cultured—formed when the irritant is carefully placed within the mollusc by skilled hands. Though cultured, these pearls are materially the same as their natural counterparts, maintaining their exquisite beauty and elegance.
Because gemstones are a lifelong passion, David studied at the internationally recognised Gem-A (Gemological Association of Great Britain), earning the prestigious DGA (Diamond Grading Associate) qualification. His knowledge, combined with meticulous handcrafting, ensures that each pearl piece is made with expertise, care, and artistry.
At David Ashton, sustainability is more than a principle—it’s a promise. Our pearls are selected through rigorous sourcing and ethical practices. Every diamond and gemstone we use is 100% conflict-free, and our bullion is 100% recycled. Responsibly sourced under LBMA Responsible Gold Sourcing Assurance.
