Sapphire Jewellery
Only the finest natural sapphires are selected for David Ashton’s sapphire jewellery, each one chosen for its exceptional beauty, purity, and brilliance.
Known as the birthstone of September, sapphire is a variety of the mineral corundum (aluminium oxide). While most associated with the colour blue, sapphires come in a stunning array of hues, each formed by unique combinations of trace elements during their natural growth.
When pure, sapphire is colourless. The presence of different trace elements brings its vibrant colours to life—blue from iron and titanium, pink from chromium, orange from iron and chromium together, and purple from vanadium. A higher concentration of chromium transforms pink into red, at which point it becomes a ruby—sapphire’s rarest sibling.
Steeped in legend and symbolism, sapphires have long captured human imagination. Ancient Persians believed the Earth rested on a giant sapphire, its reflection giving the sky its colour. In religious traditions, sapphires were revered for their spiritual power. Some even say the Ten Commandments were inscribed on sapphire tablets.
At David Ashton, sustainability is central to our ethos. Our rigorous sourcing procedures, careful selection, and strict certification requirements ensure that all gemstones, including sapphires, are ethically produced and 100% conflict-free. Our bullion is responsibly sourced and 100% recycled.
