Black spinel & pearl necklace.
Black spinel is a rare gemstone of hard vitreous magnesium aluminium oxide or magnesium aluminate. Particularly important, the name spinel comes from the Latin spina or little thorn. The rough crystals have a very sharp thorn-like habit, and these faceted beads have a fantastic sparkle, surprisingly in a pure black stone. Specifically, black spinel is one of the rarest minerals from the Spinel family, the most famous being the black Prince’s ruby.
These 2mm seed pearls, with their lovely creamy lustre, make a lovely contrast. They also look stunning when combined with a vibrant colour, such as emerald.
