A single white pearl on a string of natural sapphires necklace.
This necklace is a range of stunning sapphires in various shades, perfectly faceted round beads have amazing sparkle. Graduating in colour from pure pink at the front , framing a 11mm white round pearl with a lovely deep lustre, perfect surface finish the finest quality graded as AAA. Pearls are technically an organic substance produced by shelled molluscs with concentric layers of calcium carbonate.
Pearls, a timeless treasure in the jewellery world, are a marvel of nature. They are not, as commonly believed, formed around a grain of sand but are a product of oysters protecting themselves from a parasitic irritant. This process has fascinated humans for centuries.
Until the early 20th century, the only way to find pearls was to dive to the ocean floor.
Most pearls that we see today are cultured. Cultured pearls are, to all intentions, the same material as natural pearls, but the irritant is placed in the molluscs rather than by chance in nature.
The Sapphires are all natural origin, natural colour, perfectly round and faceted at 2.5mm. Graduating from a vibrant pink at the front, to a range of more subtle pastel shades at the back.
The name Sapphire name is somewhat misleading as it’s from the Greek, sappheiros, meaning blue stone’ .
When pure, sapphire is colourless, it’s colour derived from transitional elements caught within the crystal structure. Blue is caused by iron & titanium, orange by iron & chromium, purple by vanadium, yellow and green by iron only. Pink is caused by chromium only, becoming red with a greater concentration of chromium, then being called ruby.
