For a white metal you want to wear every day, nothing beats Platinum. Naturally white, it doesn’t need plating. Importantly, it’s inert, so it won’t tarnish.  Platinum ages and works hardens. Consequently, it gets harder during life, thus holding the stones set within it more securely.
