The diamond appears suspended within the platinum, relying on precise engineering and controlled tension rather than a conventional claw setting. David Ashton handmakes each ring individually in his London workshop, combining careful proportions with everyday comfort and lasting durability.
Gemstone quality
All diamonds used by David Ashton Jewellery are natural. We select all our natural diamonds to our house standard of D/E colour, VVS clarity and Triple Excellent cut, polish and symmetry. This exceptional quality gives our diamonds outstanding brightness, fire and scintillation.
A tension setting depends on exceptionally accurate metalwork: the platinum is engineered to hold the diamond securely through controlled pressure while leaving the stone visually open. It is a design that reflects David’s engineering background and precision approach to jewellery making.
Gemstone expertise
David and Nicola have both studied with the Gemmological Association of Great Britain (Gem-A) and successfully passed the Diamond Diploma, gaining the DGA qualification. Their training supports the technical and aesthetic guidance they give when comparing natural stones.

This design can be made in 18ct gold or Platinum, but only works with white or fancy colour diamonds of vrious sizes.
As part of our sizing process, David first makes a silver trial ring for you to wear. This allows you to assess the size, width, proportions and everyday fit, so we can refine the fit before David makes the finished ring.
