This contemporary engagement ring centres on a natural brilliant-cut diamond, rub-over set in platinum and surrounded by 24 natural diamonds. The price-guide example uses a 0.33ct centre diamond on a solid 3.3mm platinum band.
David’s rub-over setting holds the centre diamond within a smooth, continuous rim of platinum. There are no claws to catch on clothing, wear down or work loose. The construction also helps stop dirt collecting around the centre stone.
David sets the surrounding diamonds blind into solid metal rather than drilling through beneath them. This retains more platinum and gives the ring greater substance. It also leaves a smoother underside, helping prevent soap and dirt collecting behind the stones.
